How Do I... Check for a Water Leak

Water leaks can be a very costly and cause water damage. 

If you think you have a leak, take the following steps.

1. Locate your water meter.
2. Write down the meter reading.
3. Turn off all water fixtures and appliances.
4. Write down the reading again on the meter.
5. Wait ~15 minutes.
6. Look at flow indicator:
   1. Straight-Reading Meter
      • If the black triangle or the red dial is turning, you have a leak.
   2. Digital Water Meter
      • Does the plus sign (+) on the screen dissapear or remain? 
      • If the (+) sign dissapears then the flow of water through the meter has stopped.
      • If the (+) sign remains then a fixture in your home is still using water, or you heave a leak somewhere in your home.
      • Please note: the digital meters are continuously doing calculations so it may take a few minutes for the numbers to stop moving.
